Sustainable Harvests

A sustainable harvest ensures that your timber tract stays valuable for years to come. At Stoltzfus, we think carefully about what we cut, balancing today’s profits with tomorrow’s priorities. This means we don’t cut all the good trees today. Our goal is to keep your forest healthy, vigorous, and diverse for generations to come.

Wildlife Icon

Healthy Forests

Since a forest is an ecosystem, timber harvests affect the surrounding soil, water, and animal life. By careful planning, we minimize soil disruption, which reduces erosion and preserves water quality. Our harvesting practices also create openings for sunlight. This promotes diverse plant growth, which stabilizes the soil and supports wildlife habitat.

Payday Icon

Personal PayDay

We know that choosing a timber company is a big decision. That’s why we pay up front—so you’ll know we will follow through. How does it work? Once you’ve accepted our harvest plan, we’ll pay you 20%. Then, just before harvest, we will pay the remainder. This means you will have your full price in hand before we cut a single tree.

About White Oak

The leaves of a white oak tree.
Forest-grown white oaks are recognized for their tall, straight trunks and compact crowns, a form shaped by competition for light. These trees can reach 80 to 100 feet or more, with deeply lobed leaves and pale, flaky bark standing out in dense stands.

So, You're Considering a White Oak Timber Harvest?

A timber harvest is a big decision and might feel intimidating. We know that the process might be new and unfamiliar, and that it’s common to have questions. Maybe you’re asking things such as

  • What’s the process like?
  • How will it impact my property?
  • How can I know I’m getting good value for my trees?

At Stoltzfus, we understand your concerns, so we’ve included extensive information about timber harvesting on our website. We’re also happy to answer specific questions you may have.

As a large timber company, we have minimum tree count requirements for a timber harvest. For most contracts, we require a minimum of 50 trees, which can be a combination of the 7 species we purchase. But because white oak has a higher value, we will consider harvesting as few as 20 trees if they are at least 20” in diameter. If you don’t meet these minimums, please visit one of our partners who specializes in smaller harvests.

Building Trust: Words from Our Customers

“I talked to several guys who cut trees, and every one of them said that if I was dealing with Chris I was going to get the best deal. He's the best guy to deal with. You won't get any better money from anybody else; the conversations did the confirmation for me, so I never worried about shopping around; I'd recommend Chris in a heartbeat to anyone.”
